How I Made My Ikat Skirt

I made a skirt last Sunday. I was bored in the evening and didn't step out of the house the whole day. Thus I decided to try sew my own skirt. It took me three hours to complete one simple skirt. I could have completed the skirt in two hours time if it wasn't for my sewing machine throwing its tantrum. I was in a hitch bike rack position when I started. First, I thought of using a zipper but ended up with something simple -- simply pull and tie skirt. In other words, I named my skirt ikat (tie) skirt. I hope the pictures below will do its self-explanatory job! :)

So I have a cute kain...
Sew the skirt and added lining

Sew the edges...
I had to switch to this foot for the tali's holes...
Hobbit helped me with the strings...
Can you see the mess? :) So this is where you 'ikat' your string...
Sew the edges...Then viola! :)
