Mesothelioma

I got acquainted with an asbestos caused cancer called Mesothelioma while reading one of my Reader's Digest copy. What is it? Well, in short it is a malignant tumor of mesothelial tissue, especially that of the pleura or peritoneum. It is a kind of membrane that surrounds many of the body's vital organs. The membranes called mesothelium secrete a lubricating fluid that help the organs to move around. This fluid is what makes it easier for the lungs to move inside the chest while a person breathes. Even though it is known to be a rare cancer, I was amazed how even delicate membranes could make our body go wrong.
